Sevilla FC
The Sevilla club has commemorated the 68th anniversary of his death
Like every October 28th Sevilla FC goes to the San Fernando Cemetery in the Andalusian capital to perform his traditional floral offering to Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. To commemorate the 68th anniversary Following the death of the former Sevilla president, the club has placed a wreath of flowers next to his grave.
Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán has been one of the most charismatic presidents of the entity. However, his position as president was marked by two periods. The first began in 1932 when he arrived with the idea of promoting the team to the First Division. Despite their attempts, the red and white team did not have a good season. For the following campaign he managed to strengthen the team and, consequently, become champion of the Second Division. His first title came in 1935 when he won the President of the Republic Cup and until 1939 he did not achieve his second title, on this occasion the Generalissimo’s Cup. However, his position was interrupted by the Franco dictatorship in 1941 when the regime decided to elect the leaders of the clubs. His second stage in the presidency occurred with the relaxation of the appointments of the Franco regime and was between 1948 and 1956. With only a few months in office, the Sevilla team won the Spanish Cup.
After his death on October 28, 1956, the Sevilla club had a stadium project in Nervión. At first it was going to be called Grand Stadium, although after this event they decided to name it after him.
