SEP officially announces the SCHOOL CALENDAR applicable throughout the Republic

The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) published this Monday in the Official Gazette of the Federation the school calendars for the 2024-2025 school year, applicable throughout the Republic, for preschool, primary, secondary and normal education.

According to the agency, the 190 school calendar for the 2024-2025 school year, applicable throughout the Republic for public and private preschool, primary and secondary education schools incorporated into the National educative system.

Thus, the SEP indicated that article 3. of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States states that initial, preschool, primary and secondary education make up basic education, which is mandatory.

Under this understanding, that the General Education Law (LGE) provides that it is exclusively up to the SEP to establish the School Calendar applicable to the entire Republic for each school year of basic education, normal education and others for the training of teachers, necessary to cover the applicable plans and programs.

In this way, the School Calendar determined by the SEP for each school year must contain a minimum of 185 days and a maximum of 200 effective class days for students and will be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).

It is important to know that the 195-day school calendar is also established for the 2024-2025 school year, applicable throughout the Republic for normal education schools and others for the training of public and private basic education teachers incorporated into the National educative system.

The SEP has the exclusive powers necessary to guarantee the national character, among others, of basic education, normal education and others for the training of basic education teachers.

General Education Law also establishes that the SEP will determine the study plans and programs, applicable and mandatory throughout the Mexican Republic.

In addition, it will carry out systematic and continuous reviews and evaluations of the study plans and programs to keep them permanently updated and ensure in their contents comprehensive guidance for compliance with the purposes and criteria of education.

The SEP emphasizes that for the application of school calendars it must be taken into account that The start of courses for the 2024-2025 school year will be on Monday, August 26, 2024and will conclude on Tuesday, July 16, 2025.
