CDMX.- The Senate’s joint committees on Constitutional Affairs and Legislative Studies are meeting this afternoon to rule on the judicial reform bill approved on Wednesday by deputies in an alternate venue.
Yesterday, the employees of the Judiciary who are holding a sit-in in the Senate against the judicial reform assured that they would certify with notaries that the accesses to the building would be open from this Sunday, so that the senators would not have to go to an alternative location.
The Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (JUFED) reported that the workers retreated to allow free passage and that they held talks with the Senate security staff to maintain access guarantees. The 4T needs a single vote that allows it to gather the qualified majority of 86 senators (two thirds of the total) and complete the constitutional change that will integrate a new Judicial Branch with judges, magistrates and ministers elected at the polls.
On the eve of the Senate session, opposition legislators accused Morena and the federal government of seeking to buy the votes they need to approve the legal adjustment. They even claimed that some legislators have received threats.
So far, the entire Opposition has stated that it will vote against the initiative.
