He Senate of the Republic has made crucial decisions regarding the participation of foreign and national troops in military exercises both inside and outside the country.
With a majority vote of 78 votes in favor, two against and four abstentions, it was approved the project to allow the passage of delegations of troops from the United States of America through the national territory to participate in training and training exercises.
One of the most relevant decisions was to authorize the passage of a delegation of 220 American elements, who will attend the exercise “Friendly Forces 2024” in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahuawithout carrying weapons.
This action, which will be carried out between June 23 and 29aims to strengthen cooperation and joint training between both nations.
Likewise, the green light was given to the entry of a delegation of 16 elements with weapons and ammunitionwho will participate in the exercise “Improve capacity against weapons of mass destruction”, to be held at Military Camp 37-B “Cap. José Vicente Villeda Perea” in Temainatla, State of Mexico, between July 20 and August 2024.
In addition, the passage of 180 elements of the Parachute Company of the 82nd airborne division of the United States Army was authorized, who will attend the “Joint Specialized Exercise 2024” at the National Training Center in Santa Gertrudis, Chihuahua, between the 15th of July and August 3, 2024.
The president of the National Defense Commission, José Narro Céspedes, highlighted the importance of these authorizations to strengthen the preparation and training of the armed forces of both countries.
However, not all opinions were favorable. The senator Emilio Alvarez Icaza Longoria expressed concern about the militaristic model adopted by Mexico and the responsibility that this entails for the armed forces.
International exercises
In addition, the Senate approved the departure of national elements to participate in international exercises. This includes participation in the Fuerzas Comando 2024 International Competition in Panama, the Leapfest Jumping Competition in Rhode Island, United States, and the Agulhas Negras Challenge in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, among others.
These decisions reflect the Senate's commitment to strengthening military capabilities and international cooperation in defense and security.
