A unique car driven by the late British Princess Diana was sold for 724,500 pounds ($851,070) at an auction held at the British Silverstone Racecourse on Saturday.
The Silverstone website stated that this was the last Ford Escort RS Turbo Series One car that the Princess of Wales acquired between 1985 and 1988.
The princess was shown driving this car through the streets of Chelsea and Kensington before handing it back to Ford after 6,800 miles. After it was returned to the company, it was bought by more than one owner before it was returned to Ford’s possession, according to the Silverstone website.
The site did not mention the name of the winner of the auction.
The A-Series RS Turbos were usually made in white, but a policeman tasked with protecting the royal family had the Diana painted black to make it less noticeable, auction organisers said.
This week marks the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death at the age of 36 when her limousine crashed into a tunnel in the French capital, Paris, while trying to escape the paparazzi who were chasing her on motorbikes.
