Ciudad Juarez.- At the end of López Obrador’s six-year term, the perception of insecurity in the state was reduced by 16.2 percent, compared to the record obtained in 2018, according to the results of the National Survey of Victimization and Perception of Public Security (Envipe) 2024. In the latest measurement released this week by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), 67.7 percent of the population in the state considers that living in their federal entity is unsafe due to crime; however, it is lower than in 2018, when the percentage was 80.9 percent. In fact, the perception of insecurity in Chihuahua is the second with the greatest improvement recorded in the last year of the six-year term among the northern states of the country, only behind Coahuila. In the only states in the north of the country where the insecurity rate rose in the last six years were Baja California, with 1.3 percent, and Sonora, with 7.5 percent, the official study indicates. Meanwhile, the results indicate that the perception of insecurity is higher for women, with 77.3 percent, than for men, with 69.3 percent. At the national level, 73.6 percent of the country’s population considers that living in their federal entity is unsafe due to crime. The perception of insecurity decreased in 13 entities compared to 2023, increased in seven, and remained the same in 12. The entities with the highest perception of insecurity were Morelos, with 90.1 percent; Guanajuato, with 87.5, and Zacatecas, with 87.4. The spaces perceived as the most unsafe are the ATM on the street, with 75.6 percent, public transport, with 65, and the street, with 61.8 percent. In terms of trust in the authorities, it states that the most highly valued are the Navy, with 89.3 percent; the Army, with 86.7, and the National Guard, with 80.6 percent. In addition, when presenting the results of Envipe 2024, the institute also noted that the crime rate increased by 15.9 percent, reaching 33,267 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants.
