Despite the fact that he has already been charged with a new complaint of sexual abuse, Sebastián Villa is still active with Boca Juniors and on Sunday he celebrated the League Cup title, after his team beat Tigre 3-0, with two of his assists.
The fact that Villa continues to play generated a strong reaction from a character closely linked to the Boca World: none other than the former president of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, who was also the visible head of the club in one of the most successful cycles, between 1995 and 2008.
Macri wondered why Villa is still playing
Macri was emphatic in pointing out that Villa should not have played in the League Cup final, because in Boca there are regulations against gender violence.

“Boca has a protocol… there it says that in a case like this he should not have played. If that is a protocol, president of Boca. That says it all”, Macri declared to ‘Red Boing’.
How the protocol against gender violence works
That protocol, according to the newspaper Olé, “Aims to regulate the procedures to be followed in the event of ‘acts of violence based on gender, gender identity or sexual orientation’”.
Curiously, The protocol was created in 2021, just when Daniela Cortés, Villa’s ex-partner, denounced him for gender-based violence, a case that has not yet been resolved.
However, this protocol has a gap that has allowed Villa to continue in activity: to start it, the victim must report it to the club’s Department of Inclusion and Equality, which is a different procedure from ordinary justice. After that, the procedure against the player is launched.

Villa will not be this Thursday in the match between Boca Juniors and Deportivo Cali, in the closing of the group stage of the Copa Libertadores, but not because of the protocol, but because he is paying a six-game ban for the incidents in the match against Atletico Mineiro, last year.
