Both the former president's office and the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, have confirmed the president's death. President Gabriel Boric has declared national mourning and a state funeral.

Piñera and three other crew members were traveling on the helicopter, businessman Ignacio Guerrero, Magdalena Piñera (sister of the former president) and Guerrero's son, Miguel Ignacio Guerrero. The three were able to reach the shore on their own. The fourth crew member was Piñera. “A few moments ago we have had confirmation from the Carabineros that tells us that the Navy was able to reach the place where the accident occurred and recover the body of former President Piñera who has died,” said the Secretary of State.
Gabriel Boric
The president of Chile is on his way to the La Moneda palace after Piñera's accident. Boric was in Valparaíso due to the forest fires that have hit Chile these days.
