The Municipality of Bologna it does not consider it safe enough to introduce sharing of electric scooters in the city, unlike what has been happening for some time with electric bikes. City mobility, in this case, will be less ‘deep’ in terms of offer, to ensure a certain level of safety.
According to Repubblica, the councilor for new mobility of the Municipality of Bologna, Valentina Orioli, said in this regard: “We do not think it is a suitable service for a city like ours with 63 kilometers of arcades, a space that is forbidden, among other things, to the use of bicycles and we think that it would be even more difficult to prevent the use of sharing scooters. So we have therefore chosen a principle of caution“.
So no arcades, to avoid that the scooters, in a nutshell, run over pedestrians. Simona Larghetti, delegate to the Metropolitan City for sustainable mobility, does not see it exactly the same way: “private scooters should not be demonized, as if they were a new public enemy. According to the latest surveys of the metropolitan road safety observatory, scooters concern only 1.2% of accidents, which are not serious, so there is no problem with scooters to deal with, but the great issue of high speed on the roads as a cause of claims“.
The theme of safety and that of electric scooters travel parallel, in fact, not so much for the number of accidents (also increasing because previously these vehicles were not present in the menu, but on numbers not comparable to the data you see for bicycles, motorcycles, auto) but for the conduct of their users which, at times, is not well regarded.
