With the increase in drought situations in various regions of the world, the amount of precipitation that exists may not be enough. With this future requirement in mind, several scientists have been paid, through the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, to study rain and artificial ways to make it rain. The climate and extreme temperatures of the country mean that the amount of rain that occurs is little for the needs of the population.

The solution to making it rain may lie in electric shocks, reveal researchers at the University of Reading, in the United Kingdom. In a new study, published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society A, the authors reveal that the greater the variation in electrical charges, the greater the attraction between raindrops. Thus, overloading a cloud with an electrical discharge can lead to the production of rain.
“This improves our understanding of how load influences droplet growth and brings a new perspective to answering the age-old question: why does it rain?”, meteorologist and article author Giles Harrison told The Guardian.
