The taikonauts from mission 14 will be in space to greet their successors from mission 15, with whom they are expected to coincide for about a week. It will then be a record of coexistence of six astronauts in Chinese manned missions.
China launched the Shenzhou-14 mission with three taikonauts on board, who will spend six months on the Tiangong space station and their mission is to finish the construction of the facility.
Before leaving Earth, Liu Yang, a member of the mission, said that “we will experience nine complex configurations on the space station and we will conduct tests and docking. We will also perform three start drills, two transposition experiments and tests on mechanical arms. the three of us are a backup for each other. in terms of mission assignments and abilities.”
It is expected that during their stay, two laboratory modules and one cargo module will be sent into space, so they will be responsible for making all these parts of the Tiangong station operational.
“The Shenzhou-14 mission is much more complicated, so we prepared for two and a half years. The Wentian lab module will have three sleeping areas and a sanitary area. The environment control and life support system needs backup.” In addition, we will use the cabin of the Wentian airlock to carry out extravehicular activities,” said Chen Dong, another member of the mission.
The taikonauts will perform numerous scientific experiments on space science, medicine, and aeronautical systems. The experts who are part of the mission on Earth also reported 24 medical tests that have already begun.
“We can divide the 24 experiments into three categories: The first is to better understand the weightless environment and the impact of spaceflight on humans in physiological terms. The second is to look at the effects of space flight on human abilities and to study the characteristics of changes in people’s abilities. The third is, from the mechanism theory approach, to better understand the reason why the mechanism changes in the space environment,” said Li Yinghui, a researcher at the Taikonaut Research and Training Center.
