Carlos Alcaraz debuts in the German tournament as first seed
Carlos Alcaraz returns to competition this Monday with his debut against Nicola Kuhn at the ATP 500 in Hamburg, where he starts as the top seed in his first appearance. A test in which the Murcian tennis player can meet Pablo Carreño, training partner at the Equelite Academy and current champion of the tournament, as well as other high-level applicants such as Rublev, Khachanov or Monfils.
The pupil of Juan Carlos Ferrero, in addition, returns to play an ATP circuit tournament on clay, his favorite surface, after playing his last matches on the grass of the All England Club, where Alcaraz reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon and fell before Jannik Sinner. In fact, the Italian also planned to attend this event, although some ankle discomfort has finally prevented him. It will not be the last championship that the Murcian will play this year on clay, since next week he will play in the ATP 250 in Umag, in Croatia, the tournament that last year inaugurated his record as a professional tennis player.
Carlos Alcaraz faces this stage of the season as number six in the world, ahead of Novak Djokovic, who lost 2,000 points by not counting the results obtained in the last edition of Wimbledon. However, Kuhn announced in October of last year his intention to compete under the German banner.
If he beats the German tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz will face the winner of the duel between Sebastián Báez and Filip Krajinović in the round of 16. In the following rounds, according to the position occupied by his rivals in the ATP ranking, the Murcian would face off against Khachanov in the quarterfinals, while in the semifinals there could be a fratricidal duel against Carreño. On the other side of the table, the favorite to reach the final is the Russian Rublev.
