Ready go! Sunday’s racing in Misano opens with great duels that herald an adrenaline-filled day: the Superpole Race is a story between Toprak Razgatlioglu and Nicolò Bulega, authors of a pace that is unstoppable for anyone and fighting on the edge of tenths. However, the Turk has the upper hand and also increases his lead in the championship, relegating the Ducati rider to second place.
Razgatlioglu, starting from first place, immediately took the lead, threatened by a wild Bulega, who tried to get in front but was unable to consistently lead. Despite an approach, the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati rider was unable to fight against the blistering pace of the BMW standard-bearer, finishing the Superpole Race in second position, more than a second and a half behind the Turk.
Alvaro Bautista’s Sunday didn’t start off on the right foot, as he crashed while chasing the top three. The reigning world champion, fourth and quite distant from his rivals who dictated the pace, slipped at Turn 10 with four laps to go. Having returned to the race, he crossed the finish line in 17th position, slipping in the standings to -15 behind Razgatlioglu, while maintaining second place in the championship.
The first two made the difference over the rest of the group, so much so that Alex Lowes remained almost five seconds behind, despite taking third position. The Briton once again brought Kawasaki to the podium, but Axel Bassani can also be satisfied. Good performance from the Venetian driver, who closed the Superpole Race in sixth position.
Bassani finished the short race behind Andrea Iannone, fifth with the Goeleven team Ducati and once again best of the independents. The rider from Vasto is the second Ducati rider to the finish line while Danilo Petrucci is also in the top 10. The man from Terni was stoic and, despite the pain, he took to the track and battled, eventually taking ninth place. Michael Ruben Rinaldi was further behind, 11th with the Ducati of the Motocorsa team, while the wild card Michele Pirro was 16th.
The first of the Yamahas to reach the finish line is that of Andrea Locatelli, fourth. You have to scroll to the eighth position to find the other official R1, that of Jonathan Rea. Dominique Aegerter closes the top 10, while his teammate Remy Gardner did not make it to the end of the race, having fallen in contact with Garrett Gerloff at Turn 10 on the second lap. The episode, initially placed under investigation, ended in nothing.
Honda can also smile on this Sunday morning: Iker Lecuona finished the Superpole Race in seventh position, after fighting with Bassani. His teammate Xavi Vierge did not go beyond 13th place. Of note is Sam Lowes’ fall on the second lap.
