The new era of motorcycling began with the Women’s World Championship, which however did not start in the best way: in Misano, Race 1 (the first in the history of the championship) was interrupted after only 6 laps due to a bad accident which caused starring Mia Rusthen. The driver, who fell at Turn 16, was immediately rescued on the track and then transported by helicopter to Bufalini in Cesena.
There, she was stabilized after being diagnosed with a head injury and concussion. After much secrecy both on the dynamics of the accident (never conveyed by the images) and on her information on her health, it was her family who spoke about her, issuing an official note on Saturday evening.
The Rusthen family confirms the head injury and just yesterday Mia underwent surgery to remove a brain bleed and relieve pressure on her head. Thus, she was induced in an artificial coma, as stated in the note: “Dear all of you. Here’s a new update: Mia is currently in an artificial coma. She underwent surgery to relieve pressure on her head and remove a hemorrhage.”
“The doctor is very positive and satisfied with the result. The pressure in his brain is stable and his vital signs are stable. We appreciate all the thoughts and love already sent to Mia. This means everything, even if she is the toughest woman in the world!”, concludes the note, which leaves a glimmer of hope by talking about the doctors’ positivity. The next few hours will be crucial and updates will follow.
We join the fans in wishing Mia Rusthen a speedy recovery.
