It seemed like the right weekend to nibble away a few points in the standings, yet it looks like luck is not on Alvaro Bautista’s side, forced to withdraw from Race 2. The reigning world champion crashed during this morning’s Superpole Race at Magny-Cours and, in the tumble, broke a rib.
Having barely gotten up after the fall, the Ducati rider went to the medical center, where he underwent medical tests that revealed a fractured eighth rib. Thus, the weekend ended prematurely for the Spaniard, who will be forced to act as a spectator for the remainder of the Magny-Cours round.
In Race 1, Bautista was able to take advantage of the forfeit of Toprak Razgatlioglu, who was injured on Friday and forced to stop for the rest of the weekend. In the very complicated wet conditions, the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati rider managed to grab a second position that allowed him to recover some points in the championship.
Now he has two consecutive zeros, the first for the crash this morning and the second for his absence on the grid in Race 2. Thus, in the championship Bautista remains capped in third place with 243 points, 122 points behind the world championship leader Razgatlioglu. The Spaniard also sees his teammate Nicolò Bulega, winner this morning and second with a 30-point advantage, move away in the championship.
