The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed its categorical rejection of the displacement of the population of Gaza, the reoccupation of the Strip and the construction of settlements. Saudi Information Minister Salman bin Youssef Al-Dosari explained, in a statement following the weekly session held by the Council of Ministers headed by King Salman bin Abdulaziz, yesterday, that the Council followed regional and international developments, especially developments in the situation in the Palestinian territories, expressing “categorical rejection of Israeli statements about the displacement of residents.” Gaza, reoccupying the Strip and building settlements.”
The Minister of Information said, “The Council of Ministers stressed the importance of the concerted efforts of the international community to activate accountability mechanisms against violations of the rules of international legitimacy and humanitarian law.”
In a related context, the Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, confirmed that he wants an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
He stressed in statements to the British Broadcasting Corporation yesterday that “there is no ideal solution to the post-war situation, and that the international community has not yet agreed on a ceasefire,” indicating the need for that to happen first. He said that the Palestinian Authority has many resources to play a role in Gaza, stressing the need for international involvement as well.
He added, “The nature of this role must be determined through dialogue with the Palestinians, the international community and the Israelis.”
He stressed the unprecedented level of violence by both sides, as more than 80 percent of Gaza's population was displaced from their homes, while more than 20,000 were killed.
