The Sareb works to make its homes available to those affected by DANA. A request made a few days ago by the president of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón, and to which the entity majority owned by the State through the FROB intends to respond. This is confirmed by sources from the so-called ‘bad bank’ to this newspaper.
The entity is working to find out what homes in the area and nearby municipalities they can offer to the victims, as claimed by the Generalitat. However, not all houses will be equally operational to be offered to those affected since some have also suffered damage as a result of the catastrophe.
On the one hand, Sareb is working to find out which homes are in better habitable conditions so that they can be used by those who now have that need due to the damage to the DANA. On the other hand, the so-called ‘bad bank’ is also pending to properly determine the perimeter of municipalities where they have houses that are eligible to offer to the victims, that is, it would not make sense to relocate a person who has been left homeless in Paiporta. in another autonomous community.
Sareb clarifies that There are several administrations that come into play in a deployment like this and that, therefore, making the homes available does not depend solely on them; In addition to the State itself, the Generalitat Valenciana and the hardest hit municipalities. At the moment it is unknown how many properties the entity will be able to offer and they have been working on this for several days to be able to specify a figure and get started.
Beyond this, the entity is also working to analyze the situation of its tenants (both social and market rentals). And, at the same time, its workers are already working in the area to try to assess the damage to Sareb properties, whether inhabited or uninhabited. The amount of homes they can offer will also depend on that level of damage.
Thus, it is still unknown how many people would need to be relocated to hotels or homes, whether from Sareb or other entities, in what is predicted to be the worst climate catastrophe in terms of damage in the history of Spain, so which the sector estimates will be the most costly climate incident.
«There is a total willingness to collaborate from the insurance sector as a whole, from all the people who are part of this community, to be able to help resolve this event whose magnitude today we cannot calculate, but I do believe that we all agree in stating that it will be the most important incident caused by a climatic event in our country,” he said. Mirenchu del Vallepresident of the Unespa employers’ association, at the 31st Meeting of the Insurance Sector organized by ABC, Deloitte and Mapfre. In this case, since it is a major natural disaster, the Insurance Compensation Consortium is the one that mainly comes into play.
