Santa Fe needed two minutes to resolve its classification to the semi-final home runs. He was missing a point to secure himself and took three from his visit to Once Caldas at the Palogrande stadium, on matchday 17, thanks to a free kick goal from the scorer Hugo Rodallega.
Santa Fe did not want problems, they wanted to resolve quickly, score a goal and defend it no matter what to guarantee their qualification, which they postponed on the previous date when they tied at home against Atlético Nacional. And in just two minutes of play he did the job. Just after the game started there was a foul near the home area.
The scorer Hugo Rodallega placed the ball, looked at the barrier, saw it fragile, and launched his precise shot. The ball passed through the middle of that flimsy barrier and went straight to the left post guarded by goalkeeper Mastrolía, who could only watch the ball enter his goal. The scolding of his teammates was his next reaction, for letting that shot pass.
Once Caldas was stunned by that early goal. A goal that damaged his plans. There was a whole game ahead and at a disadvantage. I had no choice but to go look for a quick equalizer. Goalkeeper Andrés Marmolejo flew and avoided the fall of his goal in the first shot of Caldas, who definitely advanced his lines and took risks, and in one of those Rodallega was able to finish the game with a shot in complete solitude, without a goalkeeper, and sent the ball out. It was after a great pass Jersson González who had previously shot at the goal and captured the rebound from the goalkeeper. The cardinal scorer couldn't believe it.
Once Caldas breathed with that save, as a second goal would have ended their chances, and went ahead, in an attack led by Dayro Moreno. He had his opportunities to tie, such as a corner kick that was almost an 'Olympic' goal, executed in a great way by Billy Arce, the one who was most disturbing.
The Manizales team maintained its pace, forward, looking especially for the right side, where it best reached. Santa Fe knew how to hold on, knew how to contain its rival and waited for time to pass. In the second half, Once Caldas once again went in search of the goal that would give them the tie, but they lacked clarity and found themselves against an increasingly solid, better-armed Santa Fe. Dayron Mosquera and Jhon Meléndez entered the field to help reinforce the defensive zone and prevent the home team from falling on the sides.
Caldas approached again but always found goalkeeper Marmolejo well stopped and attentive.
