Sanctions | The European Commission presents a ninth package of sanctions against Russia – those involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children are on the sanctions list

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, today presented the Commission’s proposal for the ninth sanctions package. Almost 200 people and communities would be added to the blacklist.

European On Wednesday, the commission presented the ninth package of sanctions against Russia.

The new package would add almost 200 individuals and entities and three banks to the sanctioned list, says the chairman of the commission Ursula von der Leyen.

“The list includes key figures in Russia’s brutal and deliberate missile strikes against civilians and the abduction of Ukrainian children to Russia,” said von der Leyen.

“We stand by Ukraine – today, tomorrow and as long as it takes,” he added.

Newly the package would also aim to limit Russia’s ability to acquire aircraft, including through third countries such as Iran. It would impose export controls on multipurpose products that Russia can use in its military operations. According to the Reuters news agency, such products include certain chemicals, nerve agents, electronics and IT components.

In addition, the package includes the banning of four Russian TV channels to combat propaganda, as well as sanctions on Russia’s energy and mining industries.

EU foreign policy director Josep Borrell also said that the list also includes more Russian politicians and people who are responsible for looting Ukrainian grain.

On Monday, the price ceiling for Russian oil and the EU’s import ban on sea transportation of Russian crude oil came into force.
