“The boss.” With these two words the President of the Government defined this week, Pedro Sanchezto Isabel Diaz Ayuso. The socialist leader has resorted to that qualification both in the Congress of Deputies last week and in Brussels this Thursday during his press conference. Moncloa and Ferraz have counterattacked Alberto Núñez Feijóo and the PP in full judicial and political offensive, agitating the weak leadership of the current president of the popular parties.
The vision of the socialists is by no means new. It is a recurring attack. They do not forget in the PSOE how Feijóo came to the leadership of the PP. Pablo Casado has been evoked, also this last week, on several occasions. The previous president of the popular party was ousted by his party for publicly denouncing suspicions of personal enrichment by Ayuso’s brother during the pandemic.
The Ayuso’s influence on Feijóo It is “evident”, according to the PSOE. They consider her the architect of the steps backwards of the PP for months in matters that were very advanced, such as the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) at the time.
More recently, she is held responsible for not supporting a pact on reform of the immigration law. “Many of your voters and barons and perhaps even you yourself want to reach an agreement for the distribution of minor immigrants, but the problem is that the boss does not let them,” Sánchez said in the Lower House in reference to Ayuso.
Socialist sources point out that the Madrid president does the “dirty work” that Feijóo still does not dare to do. The perfect example is the call to appear Begoña GómezSánchez’s wife, in the investigation commission opened in the Madrid Assembly. This fact generated a strong response from the socialists, who They accused her of covering up deaths in residences during covid-19 and the case that affects his partner, Alberto González Amador.
Precisely this last point is what has unleashed an unprecedented Supreme Court decision, the indictment of the State Attorney General for alleged revelation of secrets. The Government, with Sánchez at the head, defends the work of Alvaro Garcia Ortiz and he is convinced that the investigation will come to nothing.
Sánchez demands that Feijóo ask for Ayuso’s resignation due to his partner’s case
Sánchez took advantage of his press conference on Thursday to take out all your artillery against Ayuso. He said that the Madrid leader could have enriched herself through the business of a “confessed criminal” like her partner. He also charged against his chief of staff, Miguel Angel Rodriguezas responsible for spreading hoaxes. And he expressly asked Feijóo to demand Ayuso’s resignation.
The PSOE, following in Sánchez’s footsteps, also dedicated this Friday the publication’s editorial The Socialist to this matter. “We want to know, because to date we have only heard half-truths or insults to President Sánchez. But not a single explanation,” they point out in reference to their partner’s case. “Alberto Núñez Feijóo, put order in your party. Now. Ask Ayuso to leave office, if he can. Demonstrate authority that has never been seen beforeand lose your fear of the boss,” the text adds.
The socialists, in any case, do not forget Feijóo’s career. “Someone with photos and vacations with a drug dealer, the contracts of his sister with the Xunta de Galicia under the magnifying glass of the Galician Parliament and who knows if of Justice, just like those of your brother-in-law, the disaster of the Galician savings banks behind him… who can someone with that resume hold to account?”, reflect sources from the PSOE. This same week the socialists They have warned that they will take Feijóo to court if he does not explain the awards to companies such as those in which his sister participates, information that he has revealed Public.
In Moncloa they point out that the feeling is that Feijóo is increasingly questioned “inside and outside” the PP, with the CEOE as an example. “They should not trust him,” say government sources. Regarding Ayuso, they describe the recurring statements about Sánchez as “insulting” and “improper for a political leader of that level.” This same Thursday he pointed out that the Government was full of “mafiosi, tyrants, Stalinists and fools.”
At the political level, Sánchez has sought to confront Ayuso, and the PP communities, for their specific measures. An example that was already seen in the speech at the beginning of the political course. The President of the Government mentioned the Community of Madrid at least six times during that intervention. He charged against his policies and contrasted them with the measures promoted by the progressive coalition Executive.
In this context, the PP of Madrid has also agitated the streets. He has called to demonstrate this Sunday in a call organized by the so-called Platform for Constitutional Spain. It requests the calling of elections and is illustrated with multiple references to Venezuela and a message of support for the judge. Juan Carlos Peinadoinstructor of the case against Sánchez’s wife. Precisely this Friday it was learned that the complaint for prevarication filed by the State Attorney’s Office was not admitted for processing. An event that caused the “discrepancy” in the Government.
“They give me lessons, about what?” Sánchez asked himself on Thursday in relation to his actions with corruption cases. In Moncloa they defend that they have taken the most forceful actions possible in the Koldo case with the almost immediate expulsion of José Luis Ábalos or the audit commissioned by Óscar Puente in the Ministry of Transport.
Meeting in Moncloa pending
The maximum tension between Sánchez and Ayuso comes shortly before they have to meet in Moncloa. Weeks ago, the Government began a round of meetings with regional presidents. The appointment with the Community of Madrid has not yet been scheduled, as confirmed by government sources. But the intention is for it to occur as with all those that are missing (Extremadura, Castilla y León, Balearic Islands, Catalunya, Ceuta and Melilla).
Ayuso tried to lead a kind of boycott by the rest of the PP barons to these appointments. but, unlike on other occasions, his position was not supported. Both leaders have met twice in recent years. One of them in September 2020, in the middle of the pandemic. It was at the headquarters of the regional government and with an image in front of numerous flags that did not go unnoticed. In 2021, after Ayuso’s electoral victory, the Madrid president went to Moncloa. No one is unaware of the strong expectation generated by a new meeting that should arrive in the coming weeks.
