Former Colombian cyclist Samuel Cabrera “Samy”, who played for the Reynolds team in the 1986/87 season, died last Monday while working on his farm in Colombia when he was struck by lightning.
Cabrera, one of the first Colombian runners to participate in the Tour de France, died in Pasuncha, department of Cundinamarca, when he was picking coffee on a rainy day.

With the Reynolds jersey, Samuel Cabrera was eleventh in the 1986 Tour, being fourth in the stage that concluded at the top of the Granon.
From Abarca Sports, structure for which he ran during his time as Reynolds (1986-87), The current Movistar sent a message via twitter in memory of the former cyclist.
“A big hug to the family and friends of Samuel Cabrera, who tragically passed away yesterday, Monday. Thank you for your quality and sympathy, ‘Samy’. See you forever. RIP,” says the message.

The former cyclist, who died at the age of 62, participated in the Tour de France on 6 occasions (1983, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989), 1 in the Giro d’Italia (1989) and 4 in the Vuelta a España (1985, 1986, 1987 and 1986).
Fabio Parra, third in the 1988 Tour de France and second in the Vuelta a España 1989, also mourned the death of Cabrera.
