The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Matteo Salvini back to talking about electric cars. And this time he did it from Cagliari, in particular from the stage of the sixth stage of Italy's YES, in which projects, infrastructures, construction sites and major works between now and 2032 are presented. As expected, the words pronounced by the minister were anything but friendly towards battery-powered vehicles, as always in the focus of his speech.
Suicide of all kinds
“There is no environmental sustainability if there is no economic and social sustainability. The solution is not just electric, It is environmentally, economically and socially suicidal to put non-electric cars out of the market by 2035, which is tomorrow morning – Salvini began – We are putting an entire industrial sector and a production chain at risk to hypothetically go from 0.5% to 0.3% worldwide over the next few years, in the name of ideology and not of pragmatism“.
Chinese emissions
The League leader's speech then moved to Europe-China dualism in view of the future and of, in his opinion, fake environmentalism: “Today, without the consumption of battery production, they are playing the same role as diesel car and electric car emissions, but they are playing with Italian production. Let's look at Chinese production, since CO2 is not nationalist but internationalist: it is clear that if there is a record amount of coal burned in some countries in the world, micro-localized decarbonisation evidently has zero effects”.
Jobs at risk
Salvini, who released the video of his speech on his official social channels, added on his Facebook profile: “I won't stop repeating it: it's unthinkable destroy entire sectors and jobs in the name of ideological green and electric power only. We need pragmatism, common sense, balance, and the League will continue to fight in Italy and Europe for promote environmental sustainability also ensuring economic and social sustainability”.
