At a time when a priori everything should be celebrations, the situation at Anfield has heated up unexpectedly. After Liverpool’s difficult away victory against Southampton, which places them with 31 points, eight behind second place (Manchester City), the Egyptian star Mohamed Salah showed at a press conference his discontent with the English club for not having renewed his contract.
His contract ends in June 2025 and the 32-year-old winger assured the network NBC being “disappointed” with the ‘network’ entity because it has not yet been offered an extension. The situation is repeated in the cases of Alexander Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk, players who have a few months left on their contract and to date there has been no agreement between the parties.
The former Roma player, who was decisive in scoring the 2-2 draw and the decisive goal against the bottom team, has an impeccable record this season of 10 goals and six assists in 12 league games. In the Champions League, where Liverpool is also the leader, the forward has one goal and four shared among his teammates.
Salah was forceful regarding the current situation of his future: “You already know that I have been at the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. I am more outside than inside. I have not received any proposal. We are almost in December and I have not received any offer to stay at the club,” declared the Egyptian.
In the same way, the winger expressed that he is focused on the current season and is open to dialogue. “I’m not going to retire, so I’m still playing, focused on this season and trying to win the Premier League and the Champions League. I’m disappointed, but we’ll see what happens,” added Salah.
The striker is Liverpool’s highest-paid player with a salary of between 21 and 24 million euros in bonuses.
