The Spaniard is at a crossroads like in 2014
“I wanted to run and move the surgery, but the doctors told me I would risk dying if it exploded”. Carlos Sainzhost of the podcast nude projecttold how he warned the Jeddah weekend in Saudi Arabia, the second of the 2024 championship, which for the Spaniard lasted only until the end of free practice on Friday. “They were the two most difficult sessions of my career – Sainz’s words – on a super physical circuit with very fast corners, I wasn’t eating, I had no energy, I was sweating more than usual. I suffered a lot. Saturday morning I realized that my illness wasn’t a virus. I asked to have an injection to operate after the race, but after what the doctors told me I underwent surgery immediately.”
Now Carlos Sainz is looking for a seat for next year. The fact of having to earn your place with results is not a new situation for the Spaniard: “In 2014 Red Bull told me ‘either you win or we won’t take you to F1. And even if you win, there might not be a place.’ When I was about to win the World Series, Red Bull signed Verstappen and I was left without a seat. But I won the championship, another place became available and that was for me.”
Being the son of a legend like Carlos Sainz senior on the one hand was certainly positive for the current Ferrari representative, but being the son of an artist entails ‘special’ attention from rivals, at least in the karting era: “If I had been a ‘package’ my father would have taken me to play tennis or golf. At ten years old everyone beat me up because beating Sainz’s son was prestigious. That’s when my father told me that in this environment you either bite or get bitten. In F1 we all think we are the best, if you don’t have this mentality you won’t be able to beat the other 19″.
