There press conference of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix – with this weekend’s schedule starting at 15:00 with the first free practice session – he presented Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen side by side in Friday interviews, with both drivers analyzing their weekend by Sakhir. Of the two, the one who left Bahrain with the most satisfaction was obviously the Spaniard from Ferrari, 2nd at the finish line and co-star of the double win for the Maranello house. A placement, however, not entirely appreciated by the Iberian, especially for his feeling with the car: “I was a bit negative after the race, despite having obtained the double, but I wasn’t really happy with the car. – has explained – I have not yet been able to fully understand the new cars, I am working on them and I am sure that the results will come when I am more comfortable. It is true that I got a 2nd place, albeit due to Max’s retirement, but I know there can be room for growth. We are then close to renewal with Ferrari, we’re getting there and I want everything done right. We are all very happy, the last details are missing but things seem to be on the right point for the future ”.
Even less satisfied Max Verstappenretired in the last GP a few laps from the end: “Regardless of the result, I was still not very happy with the performance, despite being 2nd. We weren’t able to finish, but we still learned a lot about the new race, also because we almost completed the whole race. It was a good learning process, which we will try to apply here. I am not completely satisfied with the car, but we will try to improve. In the challenge with Leclerc, Bahrain was not the best example for the tires, because with the high temperatures there was more degradation than on other tracks. In any case, we have fought more than in the past, not limiting ourselves to just one battle lap. We had no problems in testing, and we weren’t expecting three retirements – his, that of Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly, united by the same power unit – it was an unfortunate episode, so we just have to do our best if we want to fight for the title and not allow us another triple retirement. Finally, I confirm that I am not interested in participating in ‘Drive to Survive’. It would take more time from me, and we have other things to do. Initially there were also benefits for my popularity, but now I have to keep up with F1, I don’t like being part of this project ”.
