Rostec: the mine-clearing robot MGR-4 “Shmel” passed mine clearance tests in Mariupol
The Russian development, the MGR-4 “Shmel” mine-clearing robot, has successfully passed mine clearance tests in Mariupol, Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). About this in a conversation with TASS Alexander Dernovoy, deputy general director, said about the promotion of civilian products and production control of the High-Precision Complexes holding company, which is part of Rostec.
“Last year we presented the car in a version with a pilot’s cabin. The leadership of the Ministry of Emergency Situations gave instructions to remove the cabin to eliminate the risk for the operator,” Dernovoy said.
According to him, the robot’s capabilities were tested throughout the year, including in Mariupol and at one of the training grounds in the DPR. The Rostec representative emphasized that several units of equipment are already in new regions where they are performing mine clearance tasks.
MGR-4 “Bumblebee” is an improved model of a robotic demining complex, which was created on the basis of the Ant-1000 mini-loader. The robot has a hydraulically driven winch and chain hammer and is capable of detecting and destroying anti-personnel mines without the need to endanger humans.
Earlier, the executive director of the Compit Technic company, Alexey Malyshev, announced the testing of a robotic complex for the remote detection of explosive objects. It is noted that the invented technology can improve the mine clearance process at least tenfold, allowing deminers to remain safe.
