A number of Russian shippers refused to deliver goods to unfriendly countries. This was reported on March 16 by the Russian Railways press service following a meeting between the head of the holding, Oleg Belozerov, and major shippers.
“Some shippers have decided to stop deliveries to unfriendly countries, and the task of Russian Railways now is to sort out already loaded wagons from trains for export. Today, there are about 80 such trains,” the message reads. Telegram.
It is noted that the main restrictions on cargo transportation are related to transportation to and through Ukraine.
“In relation to certain shippers and owners of wagons, entry restrictions have been introduced by the Finnish Railways. Movement through the rest of the land border crossings proceeds as usual. In order to support our clients in this situation, we have canceled fines and fees for non-presentation of goods traveling to and through Ukraine, organized free consultations on the technical conditions for the carriage of goods, and simplified the procedure for concluding contracts for the supply and removal of wagons, ”the Russian Railways press service reports.
At the same time, Russian Railways notes a sharp reorientation of export deliveries from the western direction to the east.
“Since the beginning of March, 2.3 million tons of cargo have been redirected. And in total, shippers have applied for an additional export of 15 million tons of cargo in the direction of the eastern landfill, ”concluded the press service of Russian Railways.
On March 7, the government of the Russian Federation approved a list of foreign states and territories committing unfriendly actions against Russia, its companies and citizens, which, in addition to the EU countries, USAGreat Britain and others also included Japan.
On February 24, Russia launched an operation to protect civilians in the Donbass. As Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified at the time, the goals of the special operation are also the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. According to him, both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
The situation in Donbass escalated significantly in mid-February due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation and asked Moscow for help. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR, as well as treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance.
