In a Russian television program, a military expert and a presenter affirm Russia’s peaceful intentions – and threaten nuclear attacks.
Moscow – In front of thousands of spectators, Russian TV propagandist Olga Skabeeva and her interlocutor, military expert Igor Korotchenko, dem West threatened with a nuclear strike. According to a report by the US news portal, Korotchenko said that all the West fears, it said in the conversation, is the possibility that Russia will use its “tactical nuclear weapons”. Newsweek.
Skabaeva working for the state news channel Rossiya 1 moderated, adding that one in case Russia pushed into a corner could destroy everyone. According to Skabaeva, all those who wanted to destroy Russia would also be destroyed. Moreover, Russia can only be destroyed by “a nuclear explosion”, like Newsweek quoted the 37-year-old journalist loyal to the Kremlin.
Ukraine war: military expert warns West
Since the beginning of the war, the media loyal to the Kremlin have been spreading the narrative that the Russian attacks on the Ukraine are a purely defensive measure against the West and serve to protect Ukrainian society from Nazis. Because western Ukraine is supplying weapons for its defense, this claim has recently been repeated several times. Also the Russian ruler Wladimir Putin threatened in a televised address on Wednesday (21 September) that nuclear weapons would be used if Ukraine continued to receive arms support.
Military expert Korotchenko called Putin’s words “valuable,” citing the West’s “fear” of Russian nuclear weapons. “The West needs to understand that when certain weapons exist, taboos and restrictions on their use can also be lifted under certain circumstances.”
Threats on Russian TV: nuclear war seems “a done deal”
Skabaeva also emphasized Russia’s alleged victim role when she asked in the conversation what “the goals of the collective West” are and what Russia should do to prevent a nuclear war – “if it is not yet decided”. Skabaeva also sees a clear position for peace in Putin’s TV appearance this week: “Putin said it so succinctly and clearly. We don’t threaten, we don’t want war. We are the first to want to end the war.” (ska)
