The Police establishes a strong security device on the La Merced campus to avoid incidents
The controversial conference that the former leader of Vox in Andalusia, Macarena Olona, will offer this Thursday at the University of Murcia (UMU) has been preceded by a forceful student protest, which forced extreme security measures on campus during the hours prior to the act .
The announcement of the conference provoked the outrage of several youth groups, such as the so-called Student Assembly of the UMU, which called a rally against it on the La Merced campus at half past six in the afternoon, under the motto “Fascists out of the audience”, an hour and a half before the start of the act.
An Olona conference held a week ago at the University of Granada was preceded by an escrache that forced the Police to intervene and it is feared that similar moments of tension may be experienced during his visit to the UMU. The institution notified the Government Delegation in Murcia of the risk, which indicated how in similar situations “the Police make an assessment of the risk of social conflict and send the appropriate troops.”

The UMU, for its part, made public a statement in which it clarified that the reservation of its Paraninfo was made “following current regulations” and stressed that the academic institution does not participate “in any way” in the organization or dissemination of the act.
However, the rector, José Luján, will propose in the next Governing Council of the UMU the option of assessing whether it is necessary to review the current regulations on the transfer of temporary use of university spaces. For his part, the autonomous coordinator of Podemos, Javier Sánchez Serna, asked yesterday “not to give away a second to hate speech in the university environment or give up any space for fascism in the university.”
