The statement by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki that the authorities did not put pressure on American companies that decided to leave the Russian market was commented by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“Psaki said that the US authorities did not ask any organizations to suspend their activities in Russia. The companies themselves decided to leave the country. Just like Nord Stream 2, the pipeline itself decided not to allow gas to pass through itself,” the diplomat wrote on March 21 in her Telegram channel.
Earlier that day, during a briefing, Psaki, on behalf of the White House, ruled out the impact on the withdrawal of US companies from the Russian market. According to her, private companies should make such decisions themselves, although the US administration welcomes the decision of those who left the Russian market.
Last week, on March 15, experts interviewed by Izvestia told which goods could disappear from the shelves of Russian stores, and which ones would definitely remain. They connected their forecasts with the sanctions imposed by a number of Western countries, due to which some companies began to suspend work in Russia, and someone completely left the market.
Suspension of work in the Russian Federation in recent weeks was announced by: the elevator manufacturing and maintenance company Otis, the beer manufacturer Carlsberg, Heineken, the brands Pull & Bear, IKEA, Microsoft, IBM, Shell, Starbucks, McDonald’s, Zara, H&M, Massimo Dutti, Yum ! Brands, American company Apple, international delivery service DHL, automobile companies Porsche, Audi and BMW, British online store ASOS and others. Stopped sales and luxury brands Chanel, LV, Rolex, Cartier, Balenciaga.
Foreign brands are leaving Russia amid Moscow’s ongoing operation to protect the Donbass, which began on February 24. As the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov then specified, the operation has two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. According to him, these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
