On the European markets there was an acceleration of the price: + 7% compared to yesterday
From tomorrow the whole of Poland will be without Russian gas. The confirmation, after a day of announcements and denials, arrived in the evening: the Polish energy company PGNIG announced that it had received a notification from Gazprom that gas supplies will be completely suspended starting from April 27. “On April 26, Gazprom informed PGNiG of its intention to completely suspend deliveries under the Yamal contract starting on April 27,” reads the note released by the Russian agency. Ria Novosti.
From Gazprom, which earlier denied the news, they replied that “Poland must pay for Russian gas supplies by today, respecting the new procedure, which provides for the use of the ruble”. A request that the Polish government rejected to the sender. Currently, 55% of Poland’s gas imports come from Russia, but Poland has already taken several steps to reduce its dependence, including the expansion of a terminal in Swinoujscie, northwestern Poland, and construction of a new gas pipeline from Norway.
In addition to Poland, Putin has also imposed a stop on Bulgaria. This was announced by the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy, stating that “Gazprom has informed Bulgargaz that it will cut off the gas supply from April 27”. Again, the decision follows Bulgaria’s refusal to pay for gas in rubles.
The yellow of Poland, between one rebound and another
In the afternoon it was the Polish media who had anticipated the news: the Polish site Onet then taken up by Tax, he had in fact written that «Russia has suspended gas supplies to Poland under the Yamal contract. The sources for the site were governmental and also came from the Warsaw energy sector, according to which a crisis team had met at the Polish Ministry of Climate to address the case.
The news immediately had an impact on European markets, where there was a sudden acceleration in the price of gas: methane, which was rather calm throughout the afternoon, shot up to 107 euros per megawatt hour, with a maximum increase of 17 per one hundred compared to yesterday. The price of gas on the reference list in Amsterdam then tried to settle around 100 euros. The hypotheses of a stop of Russian supplies to Poland were cited by Bloomberg using Polish specialized and information sites. In the evening, the gas contract at the Amsterdam hub, the reference one in the old continent, is then folded back to 99.18 euros per megawatt hour (+7 per cent).
