Russia changed the head of the troops fighting in Ukraine, appointing Army General Sergei Surovikin Commander of the Joint Group of Forces in the neighboring country.

“By decision of the Defense Minister of the Russian Federation, Army General Sergei Surovikin was appointed commander of the Joint Group of Troops in the area of ​​​​special military operation,” the Defense Ministry spokesman said today in his daily war part. , Igor Konashenkov.

Last April, Western media reported that the Kremlin had appointed General Alexander Dvornikovwith previous experience in Syria, as the first link in the chain of command to lead the war campaign in Ukraine.

According to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, last June the Ministry of Defense of
Russia reported that Surovikin was in command of the Southern Group of Forces.

According to the same media, the new head of all forces in Ukraine was the head of the Aerospace Forces since October 31, 2017.
