Senator Dzhabarov supported Saudi Arabia’s refusal to attend the summit on Ukraine
It looks reasonable for Russia if Saudi Arabia refuses to go to the peace summit on Ukraine in Switzerland, says Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he supported such a move by Riyadh.
“If this is confirmed, this is a reasonable decision, there is nothing supernatural here. There is a conflict between two sides, between Ukraine and Russia. Why is only one of the parties present at this conference, and the other was not even sent an invitation? It’s ridiculous to discuss any peace initiatives in her absence,” the senator said.
I think the example of Saudi Arabia will encourage some other countries to think about whether to send their representatives there, and if they do, I think it will be at an extremely low level
As the German agency DPA writes, citing diplomatic sources, Saudi Arabia refused to participate in the June summit in Switzerland to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. This is due to the fact that Russia was not invited to the event. Riyadh did not officially comment on the information.
The summit will take place on June 15 and 16 in Bürgenstock, Switzerland; 106 out of 160 states have accepted invitations. Due to the absence of Russia, China refused to travel to the conference; Brazil and South Africa also decided to abstain from participation.
