Russia|Norway stopped issuing tourist visas to Russians already in 2022.
Norway closes its borders to all Russian tourists, reports a Norwegian newspaper VG.
Russians who have a tourist visa for the Schengen area can no longer travel to Norway, says Norway’s Minister of Justice Emilie Enger Mehl. The ban also applies to so-called non-essential trips.
Those who try to cross the border will be deported, says Mehl. The closure applies to the countries’ only border station, Storskog in Finnmark, as well as all other general Norwegian borders.
Only Russians who have a special need to cross the border are allowed. You can cross the border in the future, for example, for diplomatic reasons or if you are visiting a close relative.
Norway tightened visa practices for Russians already in 2022. Since then, it has been practically impossible for Russians to get tourist visas to Norway.
The tightening now applies to Russians who have had a multi-trip or long-term visa to Norway. In addition, other Schengen countries have been able to grant tourist visas to Russians who, due to the tightening decision, no longer give permission to travel to Norway.
According to Mehl, it was decided to tighten the visa practices as the summer approached. Norway does not want Russian tourists, says Mehl. The reason is Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine, he continues.
