War in Ukraine, Valery Gerasimov is the new Russian commander: who is he?
Starting today, Wednesday 11 January 2023, the Russian Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov will lead operations in Moscow in the war in Ukraine.
This was announced by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, quoted by Interface And tax. According to Kremlin officials, the new change of command was decided in the face of the “expansion of the dimensions of the tasks” and for “closer coordination” between all the forces engaged in the field.
Russia specifies that Gerasimov will be supported by three deputies: General Sergei Surovikin, now former commander of operations in Ukraine, for what concerns the aerospace forces, Oleg Salyukov for the land army and Alexey Kim.
Who is Valery Gerasimov
