They will take place in different seas and oceans of the world with a clearly intimidating objective
Russia surprise announces the realization of naval maneuvers throughout the planet. The Russian Navy will carry out during the current month of January and February a whole series of naval exercises in different seas and oceans of the world with a clearly intimidating objective. All this in the midst of the enormous tensions that are shaking Russia’s relations with the United States, NATO and the European Union on account of Ukraine.
“In total, more than 140 warships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, 1,000 items of military equipment and some 10,000 troops will take part in the exercises,” Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said today. In his words, the naval deployment will take place “in waters adjacent to Russian territory (…) and in global ocean areas of operational importance.”
Shoigu specified that the maneuvers will take place “separately in the waters of the Mediterranean, the North Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk, the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.” All this, according to the minister, “is part of the training plan of the Russian Armed Forces for 2022.” “The main goal is to mobilize naval, air and space forces to protect Russian national interests in the world’s oceans and counter military threats,” he added.
On the other hand, other maneuvers will be carried out jointly with Russia, China and Iran in the Indian Ocean, which will begin tomorrow, Friday, and will last for three days. This information was provided by Iranian sources. “Three-Day Exercises Involving 11 Iranian Naval Units, Three Revolutionary Guards Navy Units, Three Russian Units, And Two Chinese Units Will Start Tomorrow In The North Indian Ocean In An Area Of 17,000 Km2” The spokesman for the operation, Admiral Mostafa Tajeddini, told state television.
“Among the main objectives of the exercises are to improve combat capacity and readiness, strengthen military ties between the Iranian navy and China and Russia, ensure joint security and combat maritime terrorism,” he said.
This information has been released on the eve of the talks that the Russian and American foreign ministers, Sergei Lavrov and Antony Blinken, will carry out in Geneva tomorrow, with the intention of calming the tensions around Ukraine. It also coincides with the presence in Moscow of the Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi, to continue strengthening bilateral ties and with the negotiations in Vienna to try to save the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
