Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the independence of the Ukrainian people the interest of Russia. He stressed that people living in the country should be able to freely determine their own destiny. He is quoted TASS.
“In order to avoid any euphemisms, we want the Ukrainian people, or as President (of Russia Vladimir) Putin said, all the peoples living on the territory of modern Ukraine, to have the opportunity to freely, without trying to drive them into the grip of Bandera psychology, to determine their future destiny,” the Foreign Minister said.

He also stated Russia’s desire to liberate Ukraine and its interest in the peoples of the country having a government that represents all its diversity. Lavrov stressed that the government of the republic should not be under external control that encourages neo-Nazism, the genocide of Russians, and also uses it as a tool to contain Russia.
Moscow, the minister said, will not allow neo-Nazis to rule Ukraine.
Earlier, Lavrov said that Russia would ensure the demilitarization of Ukraine following the results of a special military operation in the Donbass.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation to protect Donbass. He also turned to outside forces that might try to pose a threat to Russia. According to him, Russia’s response will be immediate.
