“Russian missiles have sowed terror again,” said Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, through the Telegram platform.
This July 28, shortly after 8:30 p.m. local time, two Russian attacks hit a police station housing members of Ukraine’s internal intelligence service, as well as an apartment block located opposite it, in the heart of Dnipro, a city with a million inhabitants in the center of the country.
Ukrainian MP Oleksandre Bakumov also confirmed that Dnipro had been the target of a “missile attack” by Russia.
Eyewitnesses reported devastating scenes, such as the case of a man whose brother was in the affected building.
“He heard the first explosion and tried to run away, but he received shrapnel in the back of the head,” the relative told AFP journalists as rescue teams evacuated his relative in an ambulance.
In the midst of the tragedy, volunteer firefighters and doctors deployed to search for possible victims on the floors of the civilian building affected by the attack, according to witnesses.
kyiv deploys missiles in Taganrog, Russia
For its part, Russia has also experienced the consequences of attacks from Ukraine.
Moscow announced that it had shot down two missiles that were heading towards the southwest of its territory, but the remains of the first caused at least 16 injuries when it hit the city of Taganrog, located near the border with Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that “the Kiev regime carried out a terrorist attack against residential infrastructure in the city of Taganrog using an S-200 anti-aircraft defense missile converted to an attack version.”
As detailed by the military portfolio, Russian anti-aircraft defense systems managed to detect the Ukrainian missile and intercepted it in mid-flight, but the resulting fragments ended up falling in Taganrog territory, injuring several people.
According to the emergency services mentioned by the Russian news agencies TASS and Ria Novosti, of the total of 16 people injured, 10 required hospitalization, one of them in serious condition.

The Russian Army later reported having intercepted a second missile in the vicinity of Azov, some 40 km east of Taganrog, with no additional casualties. “The remains of the downed Ukrainian missile fell in a deserted area,” the Army reported.
a burning border
Taganrog, a city of 250,000, is located some fifty kilometers from the Ukrainian border, on the road leading to the port of Mariupol, which is under occupation by Russian forces after a devastating siege in 2022.
Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, in February 2022, several cities in southwestern Russia have faced events related to military activities. In October of the same year, 15 people lost their lives when a Russian forces plane crashed in Ieïsk, a town in the same region. The fuel-laden aircraft collided with an apartment building before bursting into flames, starting a devastating fire.
Also, the border regions with Ukraine, especially Belgorod, are frequently targeted by shelling coming from Ukrainian territory.
In this context marked by extreme tension, the Russian authorities regularly report on the destruction of Ukrainian drones. Last Friday, the Ministry of Defense announced that it had intercepted one of these devices in the Moscow region.
