Mercedes in the third and fourth row
George Russell and Lewis Hamilton will start from fifth and seventh today in the Monaco GP. Russell even signed the best first sector yesterday in Q3 in what was the hunting ground of Max Verstappen, who touched the wall upon exiting Sainte-Devote in the second run of Q3, thus having to lift his foot and losing ground from third in sixth final position right between two o’clock Mercedes W15.
Lewis Hamilton in post-qualifying interviews he underlined that beating Russell was very difficult in light of the fact that his teammate was able to benefit from the new front wing unlike the seven-time world champion who will have to wait for Canada to also have it on his car: “The weekend was going well, then as always in Qualifying the others raise the bar and I can’t do it, suddenly I’m missing two tenths and I don’t know why. Beating Russell here was difficult and will be throughout the year, but I’m happy that the new wing is working and that the team is continuing to bring updates.”
“Being two hundredths away from third place obviously leaves some regret, but the performance was there – he said George Russell – the team went beyond expectations by making an effort to bring a new wing here to Monaco and the results were immediately visible, the car gives more confidence. If a bit of rain came during the race to make everything a little more unpredictable I wouldn’t be sorry.”
