“Jerry, I’m sorry but I’ve decided to end our marriage.” With these few words Rupert Murdoch would have decided to divorce his fourth wife, Jerry Hall, in a brutal and unexpected email in June 2022. The woman – as told by Vanity Fair in an article by Gabriel Sherman – would have been “shocked ”, “destroyed”, “humiliated”, according to the story of friends, also because “Rupert and I had never quarreled”. In fact, the email continued with a couple more sentences: “We had a great time together, but I’m busy right now… my New York attorney will contact you immediately.” Stop. End of the story.
But that’s not the only sensational detail of the divorce between the 92-year-old Tycoon and the 66-year-old American actress and former supermodel, formerly the wife of Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. In addition to the ruthless email, Murdoch asked Hall to vacate their Bel Air, California mansion within 30 days, with the obligation to show purchase receipts for anything the former supermodel wanted to take away with her, under the watchful eye of the security of the villa.
Yet, when he received that email, Hall was waiting for Murdoch in another of their luxurious estates, in English Oxfordshire, subsequently left to the woman after the divorce agreement between the two, although initially still with the security cameras connected to Murdoch’s Fox headquarters and finally disconnected from a friend of Mick Jagger.
Then, that out-of-the-blue email to Hall. Another request that Murdoch would have made to the American would have been to not reveal anything about their marriage to the authors of the famous TV series “Succession”, probably inspired by the life of the entrepreneur and owner of a media empire that includes Sky, Fox, Wall Street Journal, Times, Sun, etc.
