New ones arrive traffic bans in Rome in the Green Band which mainly concern older vehicles within the Green Belt. The date to keep in mind is that of November 1, 2022when it will click stop circulation of vehicles Euro 2 petrol and Euro 3 diesel in the Green Belt of the city. In the 2023 same fate also for vehicles Euro 3 with petrol and Euro 4 with diesel. The stop is effective from Monday to Friday, excluding midweek holidays.
In 2024, on the other hand, the so-called ecopass which imposes a toll to go to the center by car.
Rome Traffic Block Green Band
The new deadline follows that of November 1, 2021which has already established a traffic blockade in the Green Band (from Monday to Friday, excluding midweek holidays) prohibiting the circulation of cars with engines petrol Euro 0 and Euro 1 and to those diesel from Euro 0 to Euro 2.
The goal is to limit the circulation of the most polluted vehicles from year to year. In fact, since November 1, 2022 the trap within the Green Belt concerns vehicles Euro 2 on petrol and Euro 3 diesel.
From 1 November 2023 vehicles will no longer be able to circulate there Euro 3 on petrol they Euro 4 with diesel.
Ecopass in Rome to enter the center
In addition to the blocking of traffic in Rome in view of the Jubilee a ecopass which consists in the payment of a toll to all those who want to access with their own private vehicle from the peripheral areas to the more central ones of the city.
The so-called “congestion charge” could be in effect within theDecember 8, 2024or before the date of the opening of the holy door for the Jubilee 2025.
Green belt Rome, how it works
The Green Belt Rome includes the area inside the Grande Raccordo Anulareexcluding four zones, named ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’.
The Green Belt includes the historic center, the area within the railway ring and the areas delimited by the following border roads:

Derogations Rome Green Band
The exceptions to the blocking of traffic in Rome in the Green Belt and the Railway Ring concern the following categories of vehicles.
- vehicles with badge for disabled people
- vehicles operating in the following services: police, security, social emergency, rescue (including road assistance), emergency water, electricity, gas, telephone, traffic regulation systems and body transport
- vehicles used for city public transport
- vehicles for transport, waste disposal and hygienic-environmental protection, emergency management of greenery, Civil Protection and urgent interventions to restore the urban decor.
- vehicles used for the transport of participants in funeral processions.
- vehicles with CD, SCV and CV license plates
- vehicles used for the transport of doctors in emergency service, adequately motivated, provided they are marked with the Order of doctors.
- BI-FUEL vehicles (Petrol / LPG or methane), also transformed, with LPG supply or not.
- vehicles regulated pursuant to the resolutions of the Capitoline Shareholders’ Meeting no. 66/2014 and n. 55/2018.
