What a show Jasmine Paolini: the 28 year old Italian tennis player flies in Roland Garros semi-final accomplishing a great feat (after winning the WTA 1000 Dubai): in fact the number 15 in the world and 12 in the seeding she beat the former Wimbledon champion, the 24-year-old Kazakh Elena Rybakina, number 4 in the WTA ranking and fourth seed, with the score 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 after two hours and three minutes of the match.
Jasmine Paolini awaits the winner between the 25-year-old Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, number 2 in the world and in the rankings, and the 17-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva, number 38 in the ranking.
With this victory Jasmine Paolini will become on Monday the first Italian in the Top 10 since September 2016 (after Roberta Vinci’s release on 12 September 2016). Not only. For the first time, Italy will have a player in the Top 10 in the ATP rankings at the same time (obviously Jannik Sinner, number 1 in the world) and a player in the top 10 in the WTA rankings.

I said to myself, okay, she’s a great champion, losing a set can happen, fight and try to hit every ball. She worked and I’m in the semi-finals.” The words of Jasmine Paolini after her three-set victory over Elena Rybakina which qualified her for the Roland Garros semi-final. “For the first time I played on Chatrier, it’s a privilege. I’m happy to have won in my first match on one of the most beautiful pitches in the world”, adds the 28 year old Italian who thanks to this result enters among the top ten players in the world.
