Rome – The concerts scheduled in Poland by the co-founder of Pink Floyd, Roger Waterswere canceled due to the outrage aroused by the musician’s stance on the war in Ukraine.
The promoter of the concert, Live Nation Polandconfirmed the cancellation of the events, but did not provide any reasons.
The controversy was sparked by an open letter Waters wrote to the Ukrainian first lady, Olena Zelenska. In the letter, Waters denounced that “extremist nationalists“in Ukraine” they put the country on the road to this disastrous war. “He then accused the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, of not keeping his electoral promises to bring peace to the Donbass region but did not mention Russia’s responsibility in the war.
In response, Zelenska tweeted that it was Russia that invaded Ukraine and that it is now destroying its cities and killing civilians. “Roger Waters, you should ask the president of another country for peace”, wrote the first lady of Kiev.

Waters’ open letter prompted Lukasz Wantuch, a Krakow city councilor, to urge people to boycott the concerts. City councilors drafted a resolution to declare the musician ‘persona non grata‘and due to be voted on September 28th.
Waters, currently touring the United States, responded in another Facebook post titled “Hey Lukasz Wantuch, Leave them kids alone“, referring to the lyrics of the legendary Pink Floyd song, Another Brick in the Wall. The artist denied that his entourage had decided the cancellation of his concerts and accused Wantuch of” draconian censorship “. the cancellation was linked to Waters’ comments, a spokesperson for the headquarters of the Tauron Arena in Krakow responded with a “no comment”.
The Polish government is a staunch ally of Zelensky. It sent hundreds of Soviet-era tanks and other armaments to Ukraine and encouraged the European Union to introduce tougher sanctions against Russia.
