Roberto Jefferson has gone crazy, says Kassab

PSD President said that the episode involving the former deputy was not a war, but a “hospice”

The president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassabsaid this Monday (24.Oct.2022) to consider the former deputy Roberto Jefferson (PTB) one “mad”. In an interview with “Live Wheel”gives TV Culture, the former mayor of São Paulo said that the PTB attack on federal police on Sunday (Oct 23) was not a war, but a “hospice”.

“Yesterday was not a war, because that was not a barracks. It looked like an asylum. Roberto Jefferson is crazy. He became a madman”declared.

The pessist said that the episode involving Jefferson had no “nothing to do with elections” and offered solidarity to Minister Cármen Lúcia, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), who was cursed by the former deputy.

Kassab also defended the candidate for governor of São Paulo Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) for having already spoken well of Jefferson.

Tarcísio is supported by the president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and has Felicio Ramuth (PSD) as vice on the plate.

According to the former minister, other politicians such as former presidents Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB) and Dilma Rousseff (EN) have also spoken well of Jefferson on previous occasions.

The PF (Federal Police) served on Sunday (23.Oct.2022) an arrest warrant against Jefferson. The order came from STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes. Here’s the intact of the order (191 KB).

Jefferson turned himself in around 7pm, after a new decision by Moraes (read the intact –151 KB) determining compliance with the arrest warrant “regardless of time”. The former deputy had resisted arrest in the morning, fired and threw stun grenades at police officers. The attack left two officers injured.

Kassab also commented on the Senate president, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG). He said that, at first, he thought Pacheco had made a mistake by choosing to remain in the Casa Alta instead of running for the Presidency of the Republic.

“Rodrigo Pacheco had everything to be a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic”, declared. The PSD president said that he now understands the choice made by the senator, which, according to him, is being “important” to Brazil.

2nd TURN

During the program, Kassab remained neutral about its vote for the presidency in the 2nd round, which will be held on Sunday (30.Oct). He said that for him it was “easier” not adhere to any of the candidates.

“I help the party more and don’t harm any candidate, not even the one I’m going to vote for”, said the former minister. He also claimed to have a good dialogue with everyone and stated that despite not announcing his vote, he would not cancel it.

The PSD president praised the economic policy of Minister Paulo Guedes and also praised the social programs established during the Lula government.

Kassab also criticized the Bolsonaro government, mainly for its management of the covid-19 pandemic. “Bolsonaro was lost in the pandemic by denialism“, declared.

The former mayor of São Paulo also said that he disagreed with Bolsonaro’s attacks on electronic voting machines and the Brazilian electoral system, but highlighted that the president respected the “Liturgy of the Charge” and did not cause instability in the country.

He stated that, if reelected, Bolsonaro would have more difficulty than Lula to govern because of the composition of the National Congress, even with a right-wing bench elected in 2022.
