Bulega knocked out in the first round
Even without Razgatlioglu, BMW extended its streak of consecutive victories to 14 thanks to Michael Van Der Mark, winner in Race-1 at Magny-Cours at the end of a race that started with the track almost dry and ended with conditions at the limit of practicability. Ducati recorded Bautista’s comeback from 17th to second place, while Nicolò Bulega was unable to close the gap on Razgatliogliu due to a crash at the end of the first lap. Below are their statements.
Alvaro Bautista: “It was a really crazy race. Right after the start, as soon as I saw the first drop of rain on the windshield, I immediately returned to the pits and my team did an extraordinary job to get me out of the pit lane without losing even a second. It is clear that the conditions were extreme and for this reason I just tried to get to the end without making mistakes”.
Nicholas Bulega: “We started with the intermediate tyres but the choice didn’t prove effective. From the first corners I had no feeling with the rear and I fell almost immediately. It was a bad fall and the pain in my right shoulder is quite strong. I’ll try to race tomorrow anyway.“.
