Immediately tense nerves
The team that already has to manage internal tensions at the first race of the world championship is certainly there Racing Bulls, who once again has to deal with the nervousness and verbal and on-track reactions of Yuki Tsunoda, certainly not known for his calm. In the final bars of Bahrain GPmore precisely, with 5 laps to go, the Japanese was ordered (under pressure from Ricciardo, who considered himself faster than his teammate) to let the Australian pass to overtake Magnussen, in a fight valid for 12th ° place.
However, the former Red Bull's objective was not successful, but not only that: in the final part of the race, Tsunoda did not regain his original position. All this sparked an angry reaction from the Japanese driver, who on the return lap blocked the tires in front of Ricciardo's car, coming alongside the car and avoiding contact by a matter of centimetres.
Gain experience from certain decisions
After the race, Tsunoda did not comment on the incident, hoping at the same time that the strategies can be improved for the subsequent GPs: “I think I was doing pretty well for the points until about halfway through the race when I felt it was getting out of hand – has explained – we weren't fighting for points at the time, so we will have to review everything during the post-race analysis and learn from this for the future. It's the first race, so there's still a lot of time to understand. In general, we can draw many learnings from this weekendthe mechanics did a great job with all our pitstops and if there is something we can improve from a strategy point of view, we will review it and improve for Saudi Arabia.”
No unscheduled events
Ricciardo, who had instead defined his teammate in the paddock as 'immature', added other comments: “We weren't good enough for points today – He admitted – I struggled a lot at the start of the race with the used soft tyres, because the grip at the start was quite poor. In the middle stint, on the hard tyres, we got a little more pace, but I still felt I was in difficulty. In the end, the new soft compound was much better. We finally found some rhythm and caught up with the group. At that point, I got a bit stuck behind other cars and lost grip with the tires. The call to exchange positions was quite expected and was not a surprise. Before the race, we obviously talked to the team about the strategic plans and it was very likely that I would finish the race on a new set of soft tires after starting the race on a used set. This is how things are and now let's move on. I have an idea of what we can do to improve, so I'm confident for next week in Jeddah.”
