Restrictions OKM proposes to lift all restrictions on culture and sports by 10 February

The board will discuss the interest rate strategy and restrictions on Wednesday.

Teaching- and the Ministry of Culture (OKM) proposes to lift all restrictions on cultural and sporting events and hobby and competition activities by 10 February.

The proposal of the ministry seen by Helsingin Sanomat for the government’s meeting on Wednesday has been signed by the Minister of Science and Culture Antti Kurvinen (middle). They talked about it first MTV News and Evening paper.

For example, restrictions on the number of participants in cultural and sporting events are decided by regional government agencies, not the government. However, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health may issue recommendations to regional government agencies in the form of guidance letters.

In the view of the Ministry of Education and Culture, strict restrictions have already caused disproportionate harm to the cultural and sports sector. According to the ministry, restrictions on sports facilities should also be lifted throughout the country, as many sports have begun to suffer.

Typically basic proposals for restrictions decisions and policies come from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. It is therefore not at all clear that the government will end up issuing a recommendation to the regional government agencies from the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Also, regional government agencies (avi) may not always follow government recommendations. Their task under the law is to assess the necessity and proportionality of the restrictions independently.

In Uusimaa, for example, the decision of the Finnish Open entered into force on Tuesday, according to which events of up to 50 people can be held indoors if all participants have numbered seats.

Southern Finland the decision does not follow the government’s recommendation last week. The government believes that avien should open up so-called low-risk events, such as indoor public events.

The Ministry of Education and Culture therefore believes that the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health should provide the regional administrations with new, even clearer guidelines.

The government will discuss the interest rate strategy and restrictions on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
