In Germany, residents of Cologne took to the action in support of Russia. About the rally on Sunday, September 4, reports the German portal Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger.
The protesters, who numbered about 400 people, marched through the streets with Russian flags to the sound of drums. They demanded that the German authorities lift anti-Russian sanctions, as well as launch Nord Stream 2 and stop the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
Among the slogans of the activists were the following: “Down with harmful sanctions!” and “Against NATO’s Eastward Expansion!”.
The day before, on September 3, an anti-government rally was held in Czech Prague on Wenceslas Square, which gathered about 70 thousand people. The protest action brought together representatives of organizations, political parties and citizens who do not agree with the current policy of the Czech Republic and want a change in political course. The protesters came out with slogans against the EU, NATO, Prime Minister Petar Fiala and a green economy for Europe.
A few days earlier, on September 1, Mark Bernhard, deputy of the committee on energy and climate protection in the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany party, said that large demonstrations could take place in September due to the energy crisis in Germany. According to him, the rise in prices in the country was caused by many years of ill-conceived government policy, and the current situation has only exacerbated everything.
Even earlier, at the end of August, the opposition right-wing party of Germany Alternative for Germany (AfD) announced that it plans to hold a large rally in Berlin on October 8. The purpose of the meeting will be to get the German authorities to launch the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Western countries are faced with rising energy prices after the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions against the backdrop of a special operation carried out by Moscow since February 24 to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR).
