The Republican faction in the US House of Representatives voted Tuesday to launch an investigation into the Justice Department, the FBI and other federal agencies, Reuters news agency reports. According to the Republicans, there is “politicization of the federal government by President Joe Biden”.
The authorities would have gone too far in the investigations into the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 and the role of former President Donald Trump in it. In particular, the search of Trump’s private resort Mar-a-Lago, in which the FBI was looking for classified documents, went over the line for many Republicans.

The Republicans had already announced before last November’s midterm elections that they would investigate and now that they have a narrow majority in the House, they will actually do so. The yet-to-be-established investigative panel will also investigate allegations that the Biden administration is pressuring social media and tech companies to censor opinions that go against White House policies.
Democrats speak of a partisan investigation and are concerned that it also focuses on “pending criminal investigations”. Democratic Rep. Jerrold Nadler tells Reuters that this violates the separation of powers and is therefore “very dangerous”.
