Repsol unlocks its hydrogen projects in Spain. The oil company, which had warned the Government that it would relocate investments if an extension of the ‘tax’ was approved, has just begun the public information phase of its Hydric project in Puertollano (Castilla La Mancha).
As published in the Official Gazette of the community, the oil company now begins a thirty-day public information period for the request for integrated environmental authorization and the environmental impact study of a project that includes a 200 MW green hydrogen production plant. , the largest proposed so far in our country, and which has an awarded Perte of close to 10 million euros.
The mayor of Puertollano, Miguel Ángel Ruiz, has welcomed the project after learning about these new advances of the plant, which will be built on the land occupied by the old Sevillana power plant.
The plant, which is being developed by Ric Energy, will produce high-purity hydrogen and oxygen through electrolysis, and will create 70 jobs. At first, it was expected that the plant would be operational this year with 30 MW of electrolyzer and with the possibility of increasing it to 100 MW, but its procedures were delayed due to the investment freeze adopted by the oil company, which It even accelerated investment in a plant in Portugal (Sines).
Repsol’s board of directors plans to analyze the situation of its hydrogen projects this coming Wednesday and could adopt the first investment decisions for the projects planned in Cartagena, Bilbao and the Ecoplant in Tarragona.
